Step-by-step plan for starting as a self-employed healthcare professional. Host Claire King: Are you planning to work as a self-employed healthcare professional? This could be in nursing at a care home or providing home care. It's important to prepare properly. So let me take you through the steps you need to consider. Remember that there may be additional requirements specific to each healthcare profession. So let's get started. Step one is: Register. Avoid false self-employment. Discuss your work arrangement with clients to determine whether you are working as a self-employed professional rather than as an employee. In case of uncertainty, ask an expert for advice. Register with the BIG register. To practice certain healthcare professions, you need to be registered in the BIG register. This allows you to use the legally protected professional title. Register at KVK. Self-employed professionals in healthcare must register in KVK’s Business Register. You also need to indicate your chosen legal form. Many self-employed professionals without personnel or zzp’ers as they are called in the Netherlands register as an eenmanszaak. After registration, your information will be automatically shared with the Tax Administration. You will then receive your VAT tax number and VAT ID number. Register as a new healthcare provider. You can do this at CIBG to register and you'll need an ‘eHerkenning’. Electronic recognition, which is a secure login for your businesses. Now you can only register at CIBG after your company has started. Proceed to step two: Consider rules and regulations. Meet the quality requirements. The care you provide must meet certain care quality requirements. These are set out by law. For example, in the Care Sector Quality Complaints and Disputes Act or in the Long-Term Care Act. Use the self-assessment on Rijksoverheid.nl to check what you need to comply with. Create patient files. As a healthcare provider, you must keep medical records containing important information about your patient's health and treatment. Report child abuse or domestic violence. If you suspect child abuse or domestic violence, you must report this using the applicable code. Let's go to the next step: Get started. Complete the Dutch Healthcare Inspectorate's questionnaire. After registering, the Dutch Healthcare Inspectorate will ask you to fill out a digital questionnaire. They use this information to check if you fall under their supervision. Apply for an AGB code. An AGB code relates to General Data Management. You need this personal code to claim the costs for insured care from insurers. That way, your clients will receive the correct reimbursement. Apply for a VOG, a Certificate of Good Conduct. A Certificate of Good Conduct, referred to in Dutch as a VOG proves that your past behaviour does not raise concerns regarding your job performance. Determine your rates. Keep in mind that certain healthcare professions have maximum annual ratesdefined by the Dutch Healthcare Authority, the NZa. We now move on to step four: Arrange safeguards. Draw up general terms and conditions. It is good to use general terms and conditions. With these you set out the rights and obligations for both you and your clients. General terms and conditions reduce your risks as a business owner. Take out the necessary insurances. Make sure you have health insurance. You can also take out insurance against several other business-related risks. Now let's go to the last step: Good to know. Sharing medical data. Healthcare providers should be able to share medical data online with their patients. Make sure patients can access and manage their own data online. Follow these steps for a successful start as a self-employed healthcare professional. For more information, visit Business.gov.nl. Good luck with your new healthcare business.
