Employers, listen up. The Dutch rules for contracts and dismissal have changed. The new Balance Employment – Market Act is bridging the gap between permanent and flexible contracts. What has changed? From now on, employers pay high unemployment insurance premiums for employees with a flexible contract, and low premiums for employees with a permanent contract. Payroll-workers are entitled to the same working conditions as employees with a contract. And you have to offer your on-call workers a fixed number of hours after 1 year. If you dismiss employees, or don’t renew their contracts, you owe them a transition payment that is calculated from their first working day. Dismissal on cumulative grounds is now also an option.
